Alice by Peggy - Lyric Video
Abstract
Exploring the intersection of artistry and technology, my capstone project, the "Alice Lyric Video," is a culmination of my creative journey at UTD and a testament to my passion for motion design. The song Alice by Peggy is song centered around maladaptive daydreaming using the story of Alice in Wonderland as a metaphor. The animation for the lyric video was a product of storyboarding, style boarding, and asset creation in Illustrator, before being brought into After Effects for final animation. Additionally, the character animation in the lyric video enhances the lyric to really feel the effects of being in wonderland or being in the real world using 2D animation software Toon Boom Harmony.
The lyric video uses inspiration from the storybook elements as the rabbit hole background, enchanting Wonderland landscapes, and whimsical storybook motifs. While making this lyric video, I used several industry used software to create and animate the elements such as After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Toon Boom Harmony as well as Procreate to bring life to the lyrics of Peggy’s song Alice. Many people don’t think about the artistry that goes into creating lyric videos. While doing my research on how I should format my lyric video, I saw different ways that artist played with the medium. Some artists would do a bit of character animation and play with the words while others would solely play with only the words and use stylistic choices to make it stand out. I believe that lyric videos are a form of animation that goes under appreciated. By showcasing the transformative power of animation in storytelling, the "Alice Lyric Video" invites audiences to appreciate the fusion of music and visual art in a refreshing and innovative manner.
Final Capstone
Planning Process

Timeline
Originally in my timeline, I had myself working on elements and animation at once in a section of about 3 weeks each. I quickly realized that wasn't a feasible process and changed the way I had my timeline set up. I dedicated the month of March to creating my assets and the month of April to animating.
Pre-Production Process
StoryBoards
Here are the original storyboard I made for the lyric video. Since making the storyboards, I have cut one sequence out in verse 1. Everything else has stayed relatively safe. During this process, I began to think of the software I would be using. I ended up using Procreate for the storyboard and initial sketches of the assets, Illustrator for the final assets, After effects for the animation, and Toon Boom Harmony for the 2D animation.

Background Making
In preparation for making the assets and animation for the lyric video, I started off by making some backgrounds first to get the tone of the music video visualized.
Although not listed here, three of the backgrounds in the video were made by the talented Annie Wu. The backgrounds she did were the rabbit hole jump, the tunnel, and the room.
Asset Creation
Here are some of the assets I created In illustrator that were used in the lyric video.

Animation Process
2D animations passes
Through making the 2D animated sequences in the video, there were many differences form the first draft to the final pick. In this section we will look at some of the first 2D animated sequences i did
